In May, Texas Tech University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with both Texas State Technical College and Ranger College. An MOU serves as an institutional handshake between the institutions to work together to make student transfers easier.

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) was established 50 years ago and now consists of 10 campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, Fort Bend County, Harlingen, Marshall, North Texas, Sweetwater, Waco and East Williamson County. This memorandum of understanding with TSTC has opened the door for the creation of articulation agreements to the TTU Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science degree options.

Articulation agreements are specific pathways for degree programs, which illustrate the exact coursework to be completed at the community college. The fulfilled coursework will then seamlessly apply as the student's first two years of their four-year Texas Tech baccalaureate degree.

Elton Stuckly Jr., TSTC's executive vice chancellor and chief strategic relations officer, said the partnership provides a great opportunity for TSTC students.

TSTC takes pride in partnering with business and industry, government agencies and other education institutions to meet the high-tech challenges of today's economy. TSTC graduates are also celebrated for their work ethic, knowledge and workplace skills.

Opening its doors in 1925, Ranger College (RC) is one of the oldest continuously operating public two-year colleges in the state of Texas. Since that time, it has experienced tremendous growth. Most noteworthy is the increase in dual enrollment at the 40+ independent school districts served by the institution. In addition to supporting the mission of the Destination Raiderland program, this memorandum of understanding with RC will provide continuous transfer opportunities not only to the main Lubbock campus, but also the Cleburne campus.

"Ranger College is committed to aiding our students in progressing toward their academic goals," said Jennifer Kent, vice president of Ranger College. "It's articulation agreements like this that help our students get to the next phase in their education."

With these MOUs in place, the institutions can collaborate to create program-to-program alliances to reduce the amount of excess credits, inform of specific coursework needed and provide a smoother pathway for students to become Red Raiders.

Destination Raiderland continues to grow as Texas Tech develops MOUs and articulation agreements with other institutions to help support the mission of "TTU From Anywhere."
