Texas Tech University is proud to introduce Dustin Florence as the new program manager for special projects with the Writing Centers of Texas Tech. Florence is responsible for reaching out to campus and community partners to develop and facilitate projects to help Texas Tech students become the best-written communicators they can be. Florence is currently working at Texas Tech's regional site in Waco, ready to serve Red Raiders in the heart of Texas.

When asked what attracted him to the education field, Florence stated, “I enjoy learning new things every day. As a writing consultant, I am constantly learning about methods of expressing ourselves, but I am also learning interesting things about a variety of disciplines of knowledge from my clients!”

With a BA in Liberal Arts from St. John's College in Santa Fe, NM; an MA in Applied Linguistics from Texas Tech, and an MA in Literature and Languages from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, Florence has a broad understanding of writing, language and other cultures.

“The biggest influence on my career path and intellectual interests has been my experience living and working overseas,” he said. “I've had the opportunity to see the world through the lens of different cultures, which has increased my desire to understand how we communicate and work with people who are different from us.”

Florence offers some great advice to anyone who is considering transferring to or attending a TTU regional site. “You have access to all of the same fantastic resources as a student on the Lubbock campus, so take advantage of them. The Writing Centers, the university subject librarians, the Career Center, and many more services all have people who love to help students succeed.”
