Texas Tech eLearning & Academic Partnerships is proud to announce the opening of a video production lab, a new resource for Texas Tech faculty.

The eLearning Instructional Design (ID) team can help plan and create educational, entertaining videos and animations that will capture students' attention and encourage innovation. Engaging students in an online class requires developing several opportunities to activate their motivation; an appealing video can do just that.

Located in Drane Hall, the lab has been in development since 2019. The team is excited to share their hard work with the rest of Texas Tech. Director of Instructional Design and Curriculum, Chyrel Mayfield, has led her team in the development of the video lab.

"We are excited about the instructional opportunities that the video production lab brings to our faculty," Mayfield said. "We can't wait to see the great video content they will be developing!"

Features available at the video lab include concept development and script assistance as well as green screen and Learning Glass capabilities. The production is complete with 4K video quality, HD document camera scanning, LED studio lighting design, direct media-site connection, and audio recording and refining. The lab also can develop 2D and motion graphics animation and has a limited, but free, copyright-free music library.

Each student learns in their own way, but there have been extensive studies that show a spike in student engagement when their instructor uses engaging multimedia. Instructional Designer, Holley Baker, has been at the forefront of this project and is a critical member of the video production lab. She not only oversees the production of each video that comes through the lab, but she also assists with filming and animation.

"Making videos for your online students has never been easier," Baker said. "The instructional designers at eLearning & Academic Partnerships can help you create videos that even YOU will want to watch."

The eLearning ID team offers a range of services available to Texas Tech faculty to help support quality standards in course production. The group was recently recognized with an award for Excellence in IT Innovation for their dedicated work in Online Accessibility Web Resources to improve accessibility on campus. All of the team's work supports and improves the learning environment for all faculty and staff. The new video lab is another important tool to improve online education throughout Texas Tech.

On Feb.12, eLearning's ID team hosted an open house for the video production lab. The event highlighted the features of the video lab to faculty and staff, who were also able to test out some of the features with hands‑on demonstrations.
