Assessing the Learning

Whichever method you use to convey information to learners, periodic assessments serve multiple functions. They enable faculty to determine if students are retaining the knowledge, provide another interaction point for students with course content, and allow students an opportunity to summarize and recap. Assessments can help improve course design by indicating areas that need more explanation or examples. For students, assessments help them commit the information more readily to long-term memory.
