Texas Senate Bill 1470 Signed Into Law

Texas Senate Bill 1470 was signed into law by Governor Abbot May 23, 2015. The law requires the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to submit an application for entering into the state authorization reciprocity agreement by September 1, 2016. Texas Tech University would be able to become a member institution sometime after the State of Texas is accepted and becomes a member state under the agreement.

There is hope that THECB moves well ahead of the 2016 deadline allowing Texas institutions to become members no later than the fall of 2016. However, it is expected that institutions would be able to become members no later than the fall of 2017. The agreement is administered by the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). Becoming a member of NC-SARA would allow Texas institutions of higher education to conduct a variety of activities outlined under the agreement in other member states without having to seek additional authorization. Twenty-three states are currently members of NC-SARA.
