Podcasts about Accessibility in Higher Education

By Kirsten Morris, Instructional Designer/Accessibility

Accessibility concerns in higher education are growing with increasing litigation against institutions that are not providing properly accessible content to their students. Podcasts are a great way to stay current on discussions about accessibility in higher education. Here are a few podcast episodes that will allow Texas Tech faculty to join the conversation.

Teaching in Higher Ed Podcast, Episode 58: Universal Design for Learning (38:02)
Mark Hofer provides a great background on Universal Design for Learning. Universal Design for Learning is a broad philosophy of course design that encompasses accessibility concerns. Interactive Accessibility Podcast, Episode 9: Digital Education Shouldn't Bypass Disabled (13:02)
The hosts of the Interactive Accessibility Podcast discuss an article in the Boston Globe about the need for accessibility in digital education. They discuss what changes need to be made and how they will benefit all students using digital content, not just those with disabilities.

Digital Accessibility Made Simple with Lyndon Dunbar Podcast, Season 2, Episode 11: Higher Education Accessibility with Mike Williamson (54:33)
This podcast begins with stories of students in higher education, their struggles and successes. Mike Willliamson then shares his experience in advocating for students with disabilities in the higher education setting. He offers excellent ideas on helping students become self-advocates and how faculty can make a real difference for their students with disabilities.
