Waco Student Assistants

MCC's University Center this semester.

Texas Tech University Higher Education Teaching Site at Waco (TTU at Waco) has benefited from the help of two student assistants recently. Bridgette Allan and Kristen McQuade first started working in the regional site's office at the start of the spring 2016 semester.

"Kristen and Bridgette have helped us a lot at recruiting events by setting up tables and talking to potential students," Director of TTU at Waco Lewis Snell said. "They've also visited McLennan Community College classes with our academic advisor to help answer questions from a student's perspective."

In addition to their recruiting work, Allan and McQuade have helped with scheduling appointments, administrative work and have even been involved with some basic advertising.

Snell hopes to have one or both of them continue working with TTU at Waco through the summer, and both should return in the fall.

Q&A WITH BRIDGETTE ALLAN

Q: What is your major and expected graduation date?
A: My major is in biology and I am minoring in chemistry. I expect to graduate in the summer of 2017.

Q: Why do you take Texas Tech classes in Waco instead of going to Lubbock, or another university?
A: I took classes at Texas Tech in Waco because it was the best choice for me. My original plan was to attend Baylor University, but plans along the way did change. So I began my college education at McLennan Community College and then entered into the Texas Tech program. I fell in love with this program because of the people and the curriculum and I am happy to say my plans worked out perfectly.

Q: What's your favorite part of being a student assistant at TTU at Waco?
A: My favorite part of being a student assistant is just how fun this position can be. I love working with everyone because we all make the work environment this awesome place. During the recruitment events I am able to tell potential students the many perks of being a Texas Tech student here on the Waco campus. Most of these individuals are unaware of the program and it gives me great joy to represent the program and university.

Q: What are your interests outside of school or work?
A: My interests outside of school are riding horses, taking photos, and volunteering at Providence Hospital in Waco. I have been riding horses for about 17 years now and still absolutely love it. Just recently I obtained the hobby of taking photos. I believe this hobby coincides with my love of hiking, but now I just do it with a camera around my neck. Lastly, I volunteer every week at the hospital. Volunteering at the hospital is my favorite part of the week as I can go and help the staff and help make those who had found themselves in the hospital due to illnesses stays more welcoming. Although my part is limited, I can still interact with the patients and make their day better.
