Concentration in English Teaching
The English teaching path prepares students for future English language arts teacher certification at the secondary level by meeting the English coursework requirements for certification. Through a combination of literature, writing and linguistics courses, students build foundational skills needed to teach effectively in today’s classrooms. Hybrid-Lubbock students may pursue a secondary education minor and collaborate with the College of Education to work toward certification. While the minor is not available to fully online students, this track lays the groundwork for entering a post-baccalaureate certification program or continuing graduate study in education or English.
Certification requirements are determined by the State Board for Education Certification and are subject to change. A grade of C or better in all English courses is required.
Students wishing to obtain teacher certification should consult with the department’s undergraduate advisor and see a College of Education advisor to complete a secondary education minor degree plan.
