The theme for the fall 2016 program was Markets and  Morality. Participants explored a number of questions concerning the moral and ethical dimensions of the market system.

More specifically, participants engaged debates about whether capitalism or socialism is more just, different moral standards for evaluating market outcomes, what sorts markets should be allowed, and a number of applications to different moral and ethical issues.

In October 2016, participants attended a summit hosted at Texas Tech University with the participants from the programs at Southern Methodist University and Baylor University. The summit featured formal remarks from Prof. David Schmidtz on the role that competition performs in the provision of educational services and the economic ramifications of efforts to promote ecological justice in Africa. Participants also engaged in interactive discussion groups on issues related to the program theme of markets and morality.
