Michael Giberson, Ph.D.
Faculty Affiliate and Associate Professor of Practice
Michael Giberson is an associate professor of practice in the Area of Energy, Economics and Law in the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration and a faculty affiliate with the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Giberson received a B.A. in economics from Texas Tech University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University. Prior to joining Texas Tech in 2008, he worked with Potomac Economics, Ltd., an economic consulting firm specializing in the electric power industry. Previously, he spent five years as an independent energy industry analyst, and has worked for the Critical Infrastructure Protection Project and the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science at George Mason University, the Center for the Advancement of Energy Markets, Argonne National Lab, and Citizens for a Sound Economy.
Dr. Giberson's research has been published in Regulation magazine, the Electricity Journal, the Journal of Regulatory Economics, and the Pacific and Asian Journal of Energy. He has written on U.S. energy policies and federal electric power issues for trade publications.
Dr. Giberson is co-author (with Lynne Kiesling) of Knowledge Problem, a blog discussing economics, energy policy, technology and many other topics. His posts on energy are republished at Social Media Today's The Energy Collective online community.
