Property Rights

Bruce Benson, Distinguished Visiting Scholar

Bruce Benson, Professor Emeritus of Economics at Florida State University, served as FMI Distinguished Visiting Scholar during the Fall 2018 semester. Prof. Benson's areas of expertise include law and economics, new institutional economics, public choice, and economics of crime and substance abuse.

Prof. Benson's seminar focused on a selection of classic and contemporary readings on the theory and history of property rights from an economic perspective. The weekly meetings centered on several themes, including externalities, common pool resources, cooperation versus coercion, and government allocation of property rights.
