Advisory Council

Charge 

The Greek Life Advisory Council ("Advisory Council") at Texas Tech University will provide long-term and sustained oversight and development of the recommendations made by the Task Force on Greek Organization Culture. The Advisory Council will serve in an advisory capacity to the Dean of Students and the Sr. Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education & Student Affairs for matters related to Fraternity & Sorority Life. As appropriate, the Advisory Council will make recommendations regarding programs, services, advisement, policies, and/or procedures that impact the growing fraternity and sorority community at Texas Tech University, specifically related to organizational climate concerns, programming needs, advisor involvement, collaboration opportunities, strategic planning, and resource development.

The goal of the Advisory Council is to promote and encourage a positive and safe fraternity and sorority community with the collaboration and engagement of a diverse group of fraternity and sorority stakeholders. The Advisory Council will provide a forum for dialogue and proposals related to common issues in the Texas Tech University Fraternity & Sorority Life community.

Operating Procedure

The Advisory Council will meet at least four times annually. Copies of minutes and reports will be provided to all Council members, the Dean of Students, Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, and the Sr. Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education & Student Affairs. The Advisory Council will determine its own operating procedures and establish committees and task forces as appropriate.

A non-voting resource person for the committee will be appointed by the Dean of Students to assist in coordination of meetings, soliciting agenda items, establishing an agenda, and coordinating minutes from each meeting.

When appropriate, special guests may be invited to participate in Advisory Council meetings and discussions to provide information on special topics and proposals.

The Council will be chaired by the Dean of Students, who may designate a member as chairperson for a two-year appointment, depending on the needs of the Advisory Board. Chairpersons can serve multiple terms.

Appointment 

Members will be appointed by the Dean of Students and the Sr. Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education & Student Affairs each September. Students will serve one-year terms. All other members will be appointed for two-year terms, except for the first year when half of the Advisory Council members will be appointed to one-year terms. Membership will include student and advisor representatives from each of the four (4) Greek councils at Texas Tech University representing organizations in good standing at the University. The remaining members will include representatives from departments at Texas Tech University engaged in Fraternity & Sorority Life, community members, and other fraternity and sorority stakeholders.
