File Geodatabase Feature Class
Tags
Texas, Shales, Natural Gas
This layer contains shale plays located within Texas. This boundary file was specifically designed for small scale thematic mapping.
The spatial data were obtained from the US Energy Information Agency and are current as of 2011. Sources for the basins are mostly from the US Geological Survey and state agencies. Attributes were modified to include only basin, shale, age, and reference. The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.

Internal feature number.
Esri
Sequential unique whole numbers that are automatically generated.
Feature geometry.
ESRI

Sedimentary basin that the shale play is in
EIA
Name of shale play
EIA
Geologic age of shale formation
EIA
Literature reference or data source used to create outline
EIA
Current : play has some exploration activity (wells drilled & tested), with some current or recent gas production or gas tests. Prospective: play has favorable geological characteristics for shale gas, but without the activity and gas production or tests of "current" plays
EIA
Length of feature in internal units.
Esri
Positive real numbers that are automatically generated.
Area of feature in internal units squared.
ESRI
Positive real numbers that are automatically generated.
