Summary 

This layer contains national forests protected by the Federal Government in the US. This polygon file is intended for medium to large scale thematic mapping and analysis.

Description 

            

              

                

                  

                    The spatial data were obtained from the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. This file contains areas encompassing all the National Forest System lands administered by an administrative unit. The area encompasses private lands, other governmental agency lands, and may contain National Forest System lands within the proclaimed boundaries of another administrative unit. All National Forest System lands fall within one and only one Administrative Forest Area. The attributes were modified to include forest admin ID, region, forest number, forest code, name, and area. 
                    The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.
