Identity and Resistance in Global Contexts
Identity and Resistance in Global Contexts a links faculty from five colleges to collaborate on producing a student-generated digital collection containing a variety of texts, videos, digital stories, podcasts, and music on Identity and Resistance in Global Contexts. The multi-college project includes faculty from Arts & Sciences, Architecture, Media & Communications, Visual & Performing Arts and Texas Tech Libraries with Alec Cattell, Sarai Brinker, Idoia Elola, Andrea Jonsson, Belinda Kleinhans, Kent Wilkinson and Julie Zook as PIs. Having students pooled from existing courses will insure robust student engagement of approximately 250 Texas Tech undergraduates per academic year (2017-2019).
A Global Context for Reflective Practice in Engineering and Technology Ethics
A Global Context for Reflective Practice in Engineering and Technology Ethics enable Texas Tech students to communicate on a global stage in effective, ethical and authentic ways through the exchange of ideas across national boundaries and cultures via case studies discussions. The Ethical Engineer brings together multiple academic institutions and organizations to discuss the ethical practice of engineering in an international environment. The multi-college project includes faculty from Arts & Sciences, Engineering and the Office of International Affairs with Roman Taraban, William Marcy and Sukant Misra as PIs. Anticipated participation will include approximately 150 undergraduates per semester (2017-2021).
Story Maps of Humanitarian Projects around the World
Story Maps of Humanitarian Projects around the World links digital media with geospatial technologies for integrative learning across a wide swath of campus. The project will utilize an international network coupling a USAID and TTU-led YouthMappers Initiative. The multi-college project includes faculty from Arts & Sciences, Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources and Education with Patricia Solis, Guofeng Cao, Carlos Portillo, Linda Jones, Lauren Griffith, Cameron Griffith, and Jessica Gottlieb as PIs. Anticipated participation will include approximately 200 Texas Tech undergraduate students per year (2017-2019).
Global Governance, Communication, and Connectivity
Global Governance, Communication and Connectivity engage students through exposure to global governance with the generation of in-depth archival work based on visiting scholars' presentations include online material by each of the guest speakers so that content will be available as part of the political science global governance course material. The college project will be directed by Arts & Sciences with Kristina Mitchell as the PI. Student participation based on a required core-course with an enrolment of approximately 5,000 undergraduate students per year (POLS 2306) will ensure widespread engagement (2017-2019).
Global Readiness through Language and Culture
Global Readiness through Language and Culture prepares students to identify global issues that connect to their area of study, conduct research on those issues and demonstrate competencies to address them. By developing co-curricular programming to enhance student learning, the GRLC project will showcase the competencies students develop via the study of languages and cultures as not only highly transferable, but also crucial for navigating global challenges related to population, resources, technology, information, economics, conflict, and governance. The program will engage more than 3,500 undergraduate students per year (2019-2021).
Creating Livable Futures
Creating Livable Futures is an intercollegiate project to prepare students to communicate in an interdisciplinary and global manner about the challenges posed by climate change; ten faculty members are leading the program with participation by ca. 500 students per year. Programming includes a Sowell Collection speaker series; Climate Science Center student discussion series; incentivizing scholarships; and Grand Challenges of Engineering series discussion and reflection (2019-2021).
Lessons in Global Resources
Lessons in Global Resources is an Education college-level project to develop and field test instructional units for undergraduate pre-service teachers via required science methods courses for elementary and middle-school science teachers with total enrolment of ca. 130 students per year (2019-2021).
