Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies

Designed for students with professional, academic, or personal interest in addictive disorders. It will provide students with an understanding of the physiological, psychological, societal, and familial factors contributing to addiction and the recovery from addiction.

Communication Studies

Curriculum stresses skills that are crucial to virtually all fields – skills such as effective speaking, writing, relationship-building, and critical thinking. Students learn to enhance their communication skills in personal, professional, and public settings, as well as how to communicate more effectively in small groups and organizations.

General Business

Curriculum covers areas of study in marketing, financial and managerial accounting, finance, operations management, organization management, and business economics.

Health Professions

For students who are planning to apply to post-graduate health profession programs with very specific prerequisite requirements. The minor will meet the needs of pre-professional health career students who may require courses outside their major.

History

Curriculum will cover areas of study in both U.S. and non-U.S. history. A diverse offering of courses allows students to explore subjects that are most relevant to their interests.

Human Development and Family Studies

Human Development and Family Studies is the study of the family life cycle and individual development from the prenatal period through the complete adult life span. Students may achieve a dynamic understanding of individuals and families, as well as the skills necessary for interactions between people.

Human Resource Development

The human resource development curriculum focuses on the skills and knowledge necessary for interaction with people in various work settings. Coursework focuses on workplace topics such as human relations and communication, training and development, staffing skills and strategies, and leadership within the workplace.

Integrative Studies

Students develop the intellectual tools needed to build bridges across academic disciplines and apply their skills, innovations, and knowledge in various academic and practical settings.

Journalism and Visual Media

This concentration allows students to study issues related to news, writing, photography, and publications. It will appeal to students who have an interest in travel and destination journalism.

Nutrition Science

Curriculum covers areas of study in the science of nutrition, sports nutrition, principles of food preparation, nutrition and chronic disease, community nutrition, medical terminology, and others.

Organizational Leadership

Students explore organizations and their influence in the global economy, and develop skills in the application of operational concepts through leadership. Curriculum is covered in the areas of communication, leadership, and operational practice.

Political science provides excellent instruction for students interested in politics, law, journalism, teaching, or civil service. Insight into political values, domestic policy issues, and foreign policy are invaluable for students interested in such careers as well as for careers in business.

Psychology

Students can explore areas such as clinical, social, and counseling psychology. Curriculum looks at the fundamentals of human behavior, processes of thinking, feeling, reacting and the skills that translate to careers that involve working with people in various professional settings.

Students are instructed across five core areas of public health: epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental science, social and behavioral science, and health policy and management.

Restaurant, Hotel, & Institutional Management (RHIM)

The RHIM program prepares students for management career opportunities in the hospitality industry. Studies in hotel operations, hospitality management, travel & tourism, and food systems management are some examples of coursework covered.

Sociology

The study of groups in society and individuals in those groups. Areas of study include criminology and deviance, intimate relationships and families, race and ethnicity, inequalities, gender, aging, social psychology, medical sociology, culture, education, religion, food, social research methods, and social theory.

Courses will cover information on understanding the intricacies of basic finance skills, the consumer credit process, investing, and the skills you need to make and achieve a financial plan for your life. Students use these same skills to enhance their employability.

Technical Communication

Curriculum prepares students for careers as technical communicators, editors, grant writers, website developers, information architects, and publications managers in a variety of professional domains, including publishing, education, government, health care, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering.

Wind Energy

Designed to give students a background in the growing field of wind energy science, power grid implementation, wind modeling and design, and the science of renewable and sustainable energy.

Women's Studies

Goals of the area of study include encouraging students to reinterpret concepts of gender and gendered identities in different social, cultural, and political contexts.
