Graduate Hall Coordinators

The Graduate Hall Coordinator (GHC), as an educator, works to provide direction for student learning and academic success while assisting with the coordination of the administrative, supervisory, and programmatic needs of an educational area of one to three buildings housing 500 – 1100 students. As a live-in staff member of University Student Housing, the Graduate Hall Coordinator is responsible for the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. This is achieved by assisting individuals with their personal needs and concerns, supervising staff, and advising student leadership groups.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the tradition and pride around Texas Tech. Game days are like nothing else... the community is full of so much spirit and pride. My favorite gameday tradition is the victory bells. After every sports victory, the victory bells (located in the SUB) are rung for 30 minutes. It fills the campus with so much pride.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy working with college students every single day! I love getting to know the students leaders, learning about them, seeing them grow in their role, and watching them help their residents turn Texas Tech into home.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing reminds me of a big family. From the moment I arrived in Lubbock, I was welcomed with so much excitement and friendliness. The department is full of support, everyone wants you to succeed and do your best, and everyone is right there along the way to help you achieve that.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love the warm weather and dry heat! Additionally, I love that there are a lot of things to do in the area: great restaurants, state parks, museums, community events, shopping malls, and there's even a lazy river!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Texas Tech is the warmest and most welcoming places that I have been to. I look forward to the great experiences and adventures that await.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

The best part of my position is getting to work a diverse group of individuals. Working with students or even working with the other staff, everyone has a unique story and I love hearing. In addition, I feel incredibly supported in my role and feel that everyone has my best interest in mind.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

University Student Housing is a family that is dedicated to supporting our students, our mission and the success of many. USH, continues to champion the successes of our students and provides them the opportunity to grow and develop.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is an adorable city with a small-town feel. People are incredibly polite here and you can get virtually anywhere in about 15 minutes. Lubbock has a lot to offer, and even more to see. I haven't seen it all, and I am always looking for the next adventure here.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the school spirit that is at Texas tech but also in the community. It is a very encouraging environment and everyone is extremely nice, no matter how well you know them.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that atmosphere that is built here. USH does a wonderful job of welcoming people and making sure that everyone feels at home and comfortable. I love that in this role there are expectations but there is a lot of autonomy. We are challenged to be creative and mold our work around the needs and themes of our staff/buildings.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

USH is the most welcoming and friendly work environment. The entire team is very supportive and everyone contributes to the greater good. One thing that specifically sticks out above all else is that no matter the title, every person wants to get to know you on a personal level and help with whatever you may be going through. We are a very hands on department in terms of everyone wants to help create the best journey for you.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I really enjoy the road system here in Lubbock. It is designed very well to get people around town easily, although there are quite a few people in the area, traffic is never bad. I also really enjoy all of the parks around and the amount of shopping easily available.

Everyone is happy to be here and shows pride in their school.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with the staff. We get things done while having fun doing so.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The most open department I have worked in. Everyone is included and everyone will say hi to you even if you do not directly work with them. Everyone will try to help you as much as possible because we all have the goal of serving students.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

There is always something to do here or a new restaurant to try.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love that the Texas Tech campus is so large. There is always something fun going on somewhere on campus and the size does not feel that big with all of the cool amenities we have and that are constantly being added.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy that every day means something different. Sure there is some routine, but day to day I never know who I will get to collaborate with or advise until they stop by my office.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

There is a lot of collaboration and nobody is ever going to leave you to fend for yourself. We work as a team and succeed as a team.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is constantly growing, I did my undergrad here and I have seen so much growth in this city in just the past few years.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Being able to interact with students every day.

The culture of USH is so welcoming and it already feels like home. Your peers will want nothing but success for you and if they can help you out in anyway they will go the extra mile to do so.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Wide variety of great food options and the community is very welcoming.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the commitment to excellence Texas Tech exudes. Tangibly, this takes the form of a beautiful campus that continues to provide awe inspiring backdrops around every corner. In terms of people, this takes the form of a cordial atmosphere that really embodies the idiom 'Southern Hospitality.' And lastly, in terms of an institution, this commitment to excellence shines brightest when you arrive on campus and feel the Red Raider pride flowing from each and every person who devotes their time to serving students.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

What I enjoy the most is the day to day interaction that I get to have with students. The scope of the conversations vary from formal meetings in my office to a simple nod on a passing Lime scooter, regardless, my interactions with students serve to be a foundation for which connections can be cultivated.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

USH serves as a steadfast presence in Red Raider success. I believe that USH works to ensure that every student entering Texas Tech feels as if they matter. We work to ensure that by the end of their time here at Tech, every student feels as if they are on a platform to take their unique talents out into the world and be successful wherever their path takes them.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how whenever I wear the Texas Tech logo, people in and around the city treat me as if I am family. Being that I am not originally from Texas, the hospitality I have received here in Lubbock has made Texas a home away from home.

Graduate Assistant for Residence Education and Academic Programs (REAP)

The Graduate Assistants for Residence Education and Academic Programs, as educators, work with the Residence Life Coordinator Manager for Academic Initiatives, the Manager for Student Leadership Development and the Manager of Recruitment, Staff Orientation, & Education to provide direction for recruitment, student leadership, student learning and academic success for residents, student staff, and professional staff living on campus at Texas Tech University. Each GA will report directly to one of those positions with indirect reporting lines to all.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the pride and excitement that the entire Red Raider family has at Texas Tech. The students, staff and faculty are always around to give a friendly wave or smile as they pass throughout campus. This campus is very welcoming and inviting for all people, plus there is many campus traditions to take part in. I feel that Texas Tech has a contagious energy that is positive and uplifting anywhere you may come across on the campus.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I am a people person, and enjoy relationship and community building in my complex. It excites me to create personal and professional relationships with any individual I may have the privilege of meeting on campus. I also really enjoy empowering students and getting them involved through various opportunities to learn and practice their leadership skills. Student growth and development on campus is sure to bring a smile to my face, and is something I treasure about my position.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

We are a team. University Student Housing is here to support you and give you a family away from wherever you are coming from. I felt immediately at home when I first visited Texas Tech, and felt welcomed into the Red Raider family when starting the position. There are very passionate people here that all aspire to serve students, which is huge for me since that is the real reason we are here. I have also met some life-long friends in my department, and feel that Texas Tech is a place I can now call home.

 

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?


The community is very supportive of campus, which is spectacular! I enjoy visiting the differing food places off campus, as well as discovering coffee shops or bakeries. There is always things to do in Lubbock, or on campus! The Rec Center has an incredible leisure pool that I highly recommend and the facility has various activities to get you active. There is also no shortage of shopping areas in Lubbock, so anything you need you can definitely find here.
