Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Texas Tech College of Human Sciences Support & Inclusion

The College of Human Sciences is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for all.

At the College of Human Sciences (COHS), we are dedicated to enhancing and improving the human condition for all. We believe all individuals are unique and worthy of respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, socio-economic condition, sexuality, and sexual identity, age, abilities, religious/political beliefs, or other characteristics, backgrounds, or ideologies.

Because there remain barriers to fully equal treatment and opportunities, we must work diligently to promote diversity, provide equal opportunities, and achieve equitable treatment. We are committed to taking actions that create a learning and work environment where all feel appreciated, valued, supported, and empowered. Our college has the unique opportunity and obligation to make a profound difference to the quality of life through our diverse academic programs, and outreach into the community.

Additionally, our international connections take our faculty and students beyond our campus and our own cultures and enhance their exposure to cultures and people they may not ordinarily encounter. Developing a deeper understanding of the diverse backgrounds represented in our community and beyond will only strengthen our ability to build a richer and more resilient community that positively impacts those around us. Appreciation of diversity also helps us take advantage of the different perspectives and life experiences people can bring to bear in solving problems and generating new ideas. The College of Human Sciences recognizes that fostering diversity, equity and inclusion makes us all stronger and is committed to working to intentionally create and sustain such an environment.

The college designated a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force to develop initial guidelines, procedures, and structure for the establishment of a standing committee. The report the task force generated can be found below. Texas Tech and Lubbock community resources are also available at the links indicated below.
