Blast to the Past: Celebrating Past Dining Traditions of Lubbock

Wednesday and Thursday Nights in June at Skyviews Restaurant featured menus celebrating three of Lubbock's famed restaurants. Skyviews welcomed guests to menus celebrating three Lubbock landmark restaurants that hold a special place in the hearts of Lubbock diners: The Frenchman Inn, Gardski's Loft, and Harrigan's Grill & Bar.

Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management (RHIM) majors at Texas Tech University spend hours each week running Skyviews Restaurant, gaining real-world restaurant and hospitality experience. Skyviews guests are welcomed to an unmatched view of campus while dining on an exquisite 5-course meal above the treetops.

The Frenchman Inn honorary dinner began with a baked brie and tomato vinaigrette, followed by vichyssoise soup and a salad loaded with tomatoes, swiss cheese, and golden croutons. For the choice of entrée, diners could choose between the poached salmon with lobster sauce or a beef bourguignon. Dessert showcased the legendary tiramisu grappa, flavored with amaretto syrup.

The Gardski's Loft dinner invited patrons back to taste the well-known monte cristo triangles for an appetizer, accompanied by the tomato basil soup and blue cheese salad. Choice of entrée featured a bacon wrapped filet mignon and chicken mac and cheese. For dessert, Skyviews recreated the Gardski's brownie supreme.

Harrigan's Grill and Bar menu featured bacon-wrapped shrimp, followed by prime rib soup and a Caesar salad. Guests were offered the choice of Papa's filet with red wine sauce or the Hawaiian chicken, each served with New Orleans potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The evening ended with the Harrigan's inspired pecan cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

Each dinner in any Skyviews dinner series features a wine list, wines by the glass, specialty cocktails, and full bar. Dinners begin at 6 p.m. with reservations taken every 15 minutes until 7:30 p.m.
