Become a Professional Advisor

As a Professional Advisor, you will serve as a mentor to high school students participating in Financial Planning Academy. Each of the individual roles outlined below is designed to engage, educate, and empower the students to successfully participate in the activities of the Academy. Financial Planning Academy participants will benefit as you share your expertise, ask engaging questions, and provide feedback that enhances participants' understanding of the financial planning process and profession.

Professional Advisor Roles

Mentor: As a mentor, you will work with the student teams as they go through the process of completing a comprehensive financial plan for a mock client. This will require answering content specific questions, guiding students as they work through the financial planning process, helping students develop a strategy for communicating their recommendations, and helping students understand the value of the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) industry as a career option. The mentor role is designed for professionals that would like to work directly with students participating in the academy. This role is designed to be an 8:00 am - 5:00 pm role. We request that professionals interested in this role commit 1-2 days of their time.

Competition Judge: On the last day of the Academy, each team will present their financial plan to a panel of judges. To make these presentations as realistic as possible, we encourage students to present to the judges as if they are the actual clients. Judges will score each team based on the quality of the presentation and the overall plan (which will include an executive summary, recommendations, justifications, and a detailed implementation plan).
