2018 My Hometown - Photography and Digital Storytelling Video Contest

Call for Entries

SUBJECT MATTER

The Office of International Affairs invites Texas Tech international students to submit photos and videos for the annual “My Hometown” exhibition. This exhibition gives international students the opportunity to share their unique international experience with the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities. The best photos will be displayed at the International Cultural Center during the months of April and May. Winning videos will be showcased during International Week in April, 2018.

ELIGIBILITY

All international students who are studying at Texas Tech.

  • Mar 30 - Notice sent to videographers
  • Apr 02 - Photography exhibit displayed in ICC galleries
  • Apr 19 - Reception at ICC galleries with viewing of winning videos

INFORMATION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

Requirements for PHOTO competition:

To be eligible for consideration for the “My Hometown” photo contest, your images must meet the following requirements:

  • Photos must be taken by the student. (We do not want images taken by professional photographers or from the internet.)
  • Photos must demonstrate appropriate behavior and be suitable for viewing by all ages.
  • A maximum of five photos may be submitted.
  • Photos should be high resolution and can be in color or black and white.
  • If one of your images is selected, it must be a full file that can be enlarged without pixilation.

How to submit your PHOTOS:

  1. Files should be in JPEG format (1-5 MB). Label each file with consecutive numbers followed by your name and the location of the photo (e.g., (1) Doe, Jane – Spain (2) Doe, Jane – Portugal).
  2. Attach the JPEG files to an email and send it to oia.exhibits@ttu.edu. Be sure to include your name and hometown in the subject line.
  3. All photos must be uploaded by February 15, 2018.

Notification

The best images will be selected by a juror and become part of an art exhibit at the International Cultural Center. Notification of acceptance will be emailed to photographers by March 1, 2018.

INFORMATION FOR VIDEO COMPETITION

Requirements for VIDEO competition:

To be eligible for consideration in the digital storytelling video contest, your video must meet the following requirements:

  • Videos should include images of your hometown. The video may include segments about your life as a Texas Tech student as well.
  • Videos must demonstrate appropriate behavior and be suitable for viewing by all ages.
  • Videos must take the form of a slideshow, video, or podcast.
  • Videos must be brief. Your video should be a maximum of 3 minutes long.

How to submit your VIDEOS:

  1. All entries must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
  2. Send the link to your video in an email to oia.exhibits@ttu.edu. Be sure to include your name and home country in the subject line.
  3. All videos must be uploaded by March 23, 2018.

Notification

The top three videos will be selected by a juror and notification will be emailed to the videographers by March 30, 2018. The winning videos will be shown during the “Adventures in Study Abroad and My Hometown” exhibit reception on April 19, 2018.
