OPT/STEM OPT Reporting Requirements

Note: This page is for former TTU students who are currently on OPT and STEM OPT.

OPT Student Portal: ISSS requires students on OPT to report their employer information and update personal contact information in the SEVP Student Portal (new employment and updated personal information must be reported within ten days of the change).  Help for setting up your student portal account can be found on the Study in the States SEVP Portal Help Page. You will receive a new I-20 from your international student counselor after you report your employer information in the portal. If you are having difficulties reporting your information in the SEVP Student Portal please report your employer information through the links at the bottom of this page to your international student counselor.

NOTE: It is very important that you report your employer information! You are only allowed 90 days of unemployment during your 12 months of OPT.  If you do not report your employer information in the SEVP Student Portal you will be considered unemployed.  After 90 days of unemployment, your F-1 SEVIS record will be terminated by SEVP and you will be considered unlawfully present in the US.  You will then be unable to continue your employment and will have to depart the US.

STEM OPT Students: If you are reporting a change of jobs while on STEM OPT please remember that you must submit a new I-983 Training Plan for the new position to your ISSS counselor. SEVIS updates to your employment history will not be made without a filed I-983. STEM OPT students cannot report their employer information in the SEVP Student Portal. However, STEM OPT students must still report updated contact information in the portal.
