Worldwide Showcase 2022

With COVID-19 having destroyed everyones' international travel plans, many of us have been left sick with the travel bug. However, there is one sure way to cure those "need to get away and see the world" blues... and that was through Worldwide Showcase 2022!

This past Saturday, April 23, student organizations, individuals, and groups took to the stage to express their talent though dance, song, story telling, and music. SGC (Students for Global Connections) is a international student organization here at TTU that welcomes both international and domestic students to come together to share their interest in world cultures. They host international food nights, attend events together, as well as put together Worldwide showcase (a massive talent show) every Spring semester.

Worldwide Showcase took place on April 23rd at the Allen Theater located in the SUB from 5 to 7 pm. This free event was open to the Lubbock community and gives students a chance to share their culture in a variety of ways. This year featured students from Brazil, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Palestine, and more! The first to arrive were greeted by SGC Committee members who passed out free T-shirts to guests. As the show started, students took us away from Lubbock, on a journey across the world. We felt like dancing the night away with the Latin Dance Club as they performed Samba and Brazilian Zouk. We could not stop smiling as the Nepal Student Association invited us all to a Nepali wedding full of dance and joking. Each group was so talented and had worked so hard, it was a struggle to choose who to vote for when it came time for the Audience to vote!

At the end of the night, the Nepal Student Association won the Audience Choice Award, while Tech Kahaani, Tech's Bollywood dance team, took the Judges Choice Award. Both walked away with a $600.00 check for their student organizations. If you didn't make it this year to Worldwide Showcase, we suggest planning to attend for Spring 2023. You won't want to miss this show again!
