World Wide Showcase 2014

The Worldwide Showcase is an annual cultural production hosted by Texas Tech's Students for Global Connections and the Office of International Affairs. This production showcases international students' cultures and unique cultural traditions through the performing arts. The 2014 Showcase took place at the City Bank Auditorium and attracted an audience of over 700 people from the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities.

Over fifty student performers from Egypt, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and the United States participated in this year's showcase. Each year, international students and student organizations are informed about the upcoming production and have the opportunity to submit an application to participate. After several weeks of rehearsals, the students are ready to perform and compete for prizes.

Each year the Showcase is slightly different from the previous year due to the autonomy given to the students in organizing and hosting the show. This year's theme was “Flights of Adventure.” The overarching theme of the show represented the unique symbolism of flight across time and cultures and included a competition for prizes provided by community sponsors. The theme also served as a guide for the overall design and the script of the show.

At this 17th annual Showcase, the Indonesian Scholars and Students Association came in first place with a cultural dance titled Tari Saman. This dance featured ten performers choreographing a unique cultural dance that emphasized unity and harmony in its fast-paced rhythm and unique and complex dance patterns.

Excitement is still high as Students for Global Connections have already begun planning a theme for Worldwide Showcase 2015.
