Full-time Student

CDS Definition:
Undergraduate: A student enrolled for 12 or more semester credits, 12 or more quarter credits, or 24 or more contact hours a week each term.
IPEDS Definition:

Undergraduate: A student enrolled for 12 or more semester credits, or 12 or more quarter credits, or 24 or more contact hours a week each term.

Graduate: A student enrolled for 9 or more semester credits, or 9 or more quarter credits, or a student involved in a thesis or dissertation preparation that is considered full-time by the institution.

Doctor’s degree - Professional practice - as defined by the institution.

THECB Definition:
In determining financial aid and graduation rates:
  • An undergraduate student enrolled in 12 or more semester credit hour (SCH)s in a long semester is considered full-time.
  • An academic graduate student (master’s, doctoral, or first-professional) enrolled for 9 or more semester credit hours in a long term or students involved in a thesis or dissertation preparation are considered full time by the institution.
  • A first-professional medical or dental student full-time status is based on institutional definition.
  • A two-year college continuing education student enrolled for 24 or more contact hours a week during a quarter is considered full-time.
TTU Definition:

A full-time undergraduate student that is enrolled in courses totaling 12 or more credit hours per semester.

A full-time graduate student is enrolled in nine or more credit hours per semester.
