Google Scholar
Google Scholar provides a simple way to search for scholarly literature (articles, dissertations, theses, abstracts), books, and legal materials (legal opinions and journal articles) across various disciplines and sources.
Two Ways to Search
- BASIC SEARCH. This is the easiest form of searching, if you have used Google. Just enter any search term(s) and click "Search." This Search allows you to choose from Articles OR Legal Opinions and Journals.
- Articles. A Basic Search for articles retrieves either full-text or abstracts. To read the full-text of an article when only an abstract appears, the researcher can: 1) obtain the full-text of the article through the Texas Tech Law Library's subscription by going to Electronic Resources, or obtain the full-text of the article through the Texas Tech University Library's subscription by going to Journals or Databases, 2) request an Inter-Library Loan, if neither Library has a subscription to the publication, or 3) independently pay for a subscription.
- Legal Opinions and Journals. A Basic Search for legal opinions retrieves the full-text of cases. Case results include a "How cited" tab, which links to cases and law review articles that cite the original case. The full-text of law journal articles generally requires access to Hein Online, which is provided to Texas Tech Faculty and Students and for members of the public who are on campus.
- ADVANCED SEARCH. Using this feature helps refine and conduct more efficient searches. Advanced Search allows the researcher to restrict article searches by author, publisher, date, and subject. An Advanced search of legal materials allows the researcher to restrict case results to opinions found in specific Federal and state courts.
