Lost Item Policy
You are responsible for all items borrowed from the Texas Tech University Libraries. Make sure you return or renew check-out items by due dates. You may not be able to borrow items from the Libraries once you have overdue item(s) in your Library account.
This policy is applicable to all Library check-out items EXCEPT for the Document Delivery item with a coverslip. Please contact the Document Delivery Department at (806)742-2239 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Overdue Reminder & Notice
The Libraries are NOT responsible for notifying you that materials are overdue. Reminders and overdue notices are sent as a courtesy. Failure to receive reminders or overdue notices does not excuse you from the responsibility of returning or renewing items on time to avoid penalties.
An email reminder is sent to you a week before the due date. The reminder lists the title, call number, loan date, and due date of each item which is going to be overdue. Make arrangements for a renewal or a return once this reminder is received.
If you fail to renew or return items before the due date, an overdue notice is sent to you by email two business days after the due date. This notice lists the title, call number, loan date, and due date for each overdue item. Make arrangements for a renewal or a return once this notice is received.
Please remember to keep your contact information up-to-date.
- For TTU affiliated users, the Libraries use your contact information in your e-raider account.
- For visitors, the Libraries use the contact information you offered when requesting a TTU Libraries Borrower Card. Please contact the Circulation Department at (806)742-2265 or email@example.com if your contact information changes.
If an item is not renewed or returned to the Libraries within 21 days of the original due date, it is declared to be "Lost".
For each “Lost” item, a replacement charge and a processing fee of $10 is billed to your Student Business Service account. The replacement charge varies depending on item categories. See below for details about replacement charge by item category.
- Dynamic Media Services (DMS) Equipment: Replacement cost of the item
- Books, bound periodicals, government documents, CDs / DVDs, reserve items, popular reading, children's books: $115

Returning Lost Item
You may return an item which has been declared “Lost” to the Libraries at any time. Once the item is returned, the Libraries will issue a credit for the replacement charge to your Student Business Service account within 72 hours. The $10 processing fee for each item is NOT refundable.
