*Cello principal auditions will be held the same day as regular auditions on Friday, August 30th.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Students auditioning for a principal position will have 10 minutes and the rest 6 minutes. 

Violin

  1. All students need to prepare a short solo of choice (max. 2 minutes). Please, at the time of your audition advice jury if you would want to be considered for concertmaster or a principal position. 
  2. Stravinsky: Rite of Spring, Violin 1 (entire piece) (Click here for music)

Viola

  1. All students need to prepare a short solo of choice (max. 2 minutes). Please, at the time of your audition advice jury if you would want to be considered for a principal position.
  2. The following excerpts (Click here for music):

     Stravinsky: Rite of Spring
     2 before Rehearsal 41 to 3 after Rehearsal 45 – TOP LINE ONLY

     Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 3, Movement I
     8 before Rehearsal 2 to 4 before Rehearsal 3

     Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition
     Gnomus: Rehearsal 6 to Rehearsal 8

Cello

  1. Prepare five minutes of a solo work.
  2. Sections from the following will be selected at the time of the audition:

     Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 3 (music)

     Prokofiev: Classical Symphony (music);                         

     Stravinsky: Rite of Spring (music)

Double Bass

  1. Solo of the student's choice (concerto exposition preferred).

Strings — University String Orchestra

"The String Orchestra is open to all Texas Tech students independently of your major!

Our first rehearsal will be held on 29th August - 7pm-9pm, in the Band Hall, room 011 (basement) of the School of Music.

Everyone is absolutely welcome to this rehearsal.

There will be an informal placement audition over the subsequent rehearsals - more information will be given on the first rehearsal.

People who cannot make the first rehearsal are not at all barred from joining, and are welcome to get in touch."
