Biography

I grew up in Kansas and migrated to Wisconsin, where I received a B.S. and M.S. in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During my undergraduate career I researched American pika behavior and distribution in Glacier National Park, where I first developed an interest in small mammal ecology. For my Master's thesis, I studied the effects of historical agriculture and present-day human disturbances on seed predation and consumer abundance in the longleaf pine ecosystem of the southeastern US. I am interested in community ecology, plant-consumer interactions, endangered and threatened species policy and management, and the use of natural history collections for research and public outreach. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, camping, reading, watching my favorite sports teams, and listening to bluegrass music.
