Undergraduate scholarships awarded through the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences are given on the basis of academic achievement and/or financial need. Awards are usually between $1,000 and $3,500 for the academic year, and may be renewable upon demonstration of satisfactory academic performance during the preceding year (renewal scholarship forms will be mailed to students with active scholarships awarded through the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences).
Continuing or transfer students wishing to be considered for an Arts and Sciences merit scholarship should complete the merit scholarship application form available from the Office of the Dean (202 Holden Hall). Students qualifying for financial need should complete the H. Y. Price Scholarship form available from the office of their major department or from the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (202 Holden Hall). The deadline for submission of applications is January 22. Departmental and school scholarship committees will consider applications and then make recommendations to the college scholarship committee. Notification of scholarship awards will normally be made prior to April 15.

For high school seniors and graduates who will pursue specific scientific degrees such as engineering, mathematics,
computer science, or physics. A limited number of scholarships are available to those who will pursue certain nontechnical
degree programs such as business administration, accounting, or social sciences. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of SAT1
and ACT scores, high school academic performance, extracurricular and athletic activities, and Air Force medical exam
qualification. Application forms are available from high school counselors, Air Force Recruiters, and from AFROTC Detachment

Professional Officer Course
Incentive Scholarship
For students who enroll as officer candidates in the Air Force ROTC Professional Officer Course (POC) in contract
status during their last two years of college regardless of academic major. Applicants must be full-time students in good
academic standing, have at least two academic years remaining (undergraduate), qualify on an Air Force commissioning physical
examination, qualify on the Air Force Officer Qualification Test, and successfully complete the appropriate four or five week
field training course. Participants receive up to $1,725 per semester for tuition, books, and fees plus $200 per month
nontaxable subsistence allowance.

an interview evaluation. Scholarships pay full tuition, certain laboratory fees, reimbursement for textbooks, and $200

an interview evaluation. Three-year scholarship applicants must complete or have accredited the first two years of
AFROTC courses. Scholarships pay full tuition, certain laboratory fees, reimbursement for textbooks, and $200 per month
nontaxable subsistence allowance. Additional tuition assistance for graduate level health school expenses is guaranteed under the
Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program and is granted upon acceptance into an appropriate graduate level

For students attending the Mexico Field Course held in Mexico each summer. Courses range from junior level

Scholarship
For Army ROTC cadets, freshmen to juniors majoring in electronics, communications, electrical engineering,
mathematics, computer technology, physics, or management information systems. Applicants must be in the top 25 percent of their
academic class and demonstrate financial need. Five $1,000 awards for juniors, five $750 awards for sophomores, and five
$500 awards for freshmen on an annual basis. Applications ore due in the spring semester term and announcements are made

Army ROTC (Military Science)
Advanced Course Program
For all students who enroll in the ROTC advanced course and execute an Army Senior ROTC Student's Contract. To
qualify for the advanced course, applicants must be medically qualified, be a citizen of the U. S., be of good moral character, have
a cumulative 2.0 GPA or better, and have a minimum of two years of academic work remaining prior to completing
degree requirements. Participants receive $200 per month subsistence allowance for each month of the school year.
Out-of-state residents qualify for in-state tuition rates upon contracting for the advanced course. Additional information may be obtained
by contacting the professor of military science.

received by the end of the spring semester of the applicants senior year of high school. The scholarship pays all tuition, fees, and
a textbook allowance in addition to $200 per month subsistence allowance during the school year. Application may be

involvement in the Army ROTC program. Amount is $1,000 to be applied toward the next fall semester as long as the recipient is
enrolled in military science courses.
Army ROTC (Military Science) Reserve Scholarship Volunteer Program
For entering freshmen and all college students in the Texas National Guard or who are eligible for membership in the
Texas National Guard. One- to four-year scholarships paying room and board (up to two years), tuition and fees (up to four
years), monthly salary from participation in the National Guard, and $150 per month subsistence allowance after contracting in
the junior year.

Both Texas resident and nonresident music majors may audition competitively for all music scholarships unless otherwise stated.
Music scholarship recipients are required to study voice or instrument privately with a member of the Texas Tech music faculty, to participate in their respective large ensemble, and to maintain a 2.85 GPA. Awards are reviewed annually and renewal is subject to continuous and satisfactory progress both musically and in ensemble participation. Students are required to obtain a scholarship application from the School of Music and to schedule an audition. Students will be assigned to a specific scholarship depending upon the outcome of their audition. Application deadline is March 1 annually.

Gott Gold Tooth Award
Established because of Preston F. Gott's interest in astronomy. At the discretion of the Physics Department awards
committee, it can be awarded as a scholarship, or in recognition of accomplished activity, either to an undergraduate or a graduate
level student. Its purpose is to encourage young scholars and to strengthen motivation for astronomy in the Physics Department.
It is suggested that the recipient of this award be given a plastic plaque, machine engraved. A tiny piece of gold from an old
gold filling, beaten thin, should be glued into dot the second i. Criteria for the award, one or more of the following:
successfully completed several courses in astronomy; instructor for astronomy class or lab; knowledge of current textbook; or activity
in setting up or maintaining the technical or physical aspects of the astronomy program. The amount of the award is $500.

H. Paul Chalfant Sociology Graduate Scholarship
For deserving and needy graduate students. Intended to stimulate scholarly research and dissemination by providing funds

to attend without financial support. Applications are submitted to the Sociology Graduate Committee at any time a student
is notified of acceptance of a paper for presentation, with awards contingent on funds available at the time.

Anthropology Scholarship

Established in memory of Neven P. (Patt) Lamb (1932-1993) anthropology faculty member (1974-1993) and chairperson
