Scholarships are usually awarded on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, character, citizenship, and availability of funds. Descriptions reflect university policy governing the administration of scholarships and the conditions proposed by donors. Each description gives information concerning the eligibility requirements, restrictions, origin, amount, and administration of the scholarship.
The one application for either entering freshmen or transfer scholarships will cover all university scholarships except those stating special applications needed. Continuing Texas Tech students may apply for general scholarships in the Student Financial Aid--Scholarship Office located in 305E, West Hall, and they may also contact their college or department for scholarships specific to the student's major. Graduate students should contact their department for scholarship applications.
In order to receive early consideration for scholarships, entering freshmen should have their scores sent directly to Texas Tech from the testing service.
The recipient of a competitive scholarship of at least $1,000 for the academic year and/or summer for which the student is enrolled and who is either a nonresident or a citizen of a country other than the United States is entitled to pay the fees and charges required of Texas residents. This amount could be a combination of several smaller scholarships from Texas Tech that total $1,000 or more. The scholarship must be awarded by an official Texas Tech University scholarship committee and the recipient must compete with other students, including Texas residents, for the scholarship and meet the approved qualifications for academic scholarships.
Deadlines for applications are listed with each college or scholarship. The Website address is <www.fina.ttu.edu>.
