Course Details and Enrollment Criteria

PADR is a noncredit course aimed at developing the skills necessary for personal and academic success. Attendance in PADR courses is mandatory. There is a $200 nonrefundable course fee for all students enrolling in PADR. Students must purchase the required course materials separately.

All students who aim for collegiate and professional success are encouraged to register for PADR. Texas Tech University policy dictates that the following populations of students be required to register for the PADR course specific to their College/Major.

VPA - Visual & Performing Arts

PADR 0022 or PADR 0021 Visual & Performing Arts students whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.25
A&S
Arts & Sciences Majors in B.A. or BGS
PADR 0031 or PADR 0021 First semester at Tech with a GPA below a 2.25 & students returning from suspension
HS - Human Sciences PADR 0041 or PADR 0021 First semester at Tech with a GPA below a 2.0 & students returning from suspension
UN - University Studies & University Advising PADR 0061 or PADR 0021 University Studies students who do not achieve a 2.0 GPA in their first semester at Tech, University Advising  students whose cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, & students returning from suspension
AG - Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources PADR 0071 First semester at Tech with a term GPA below a 2.0 & students returning from suspension
Repeaters mandated in good standing PADR 0080 Students who attended a PADR course after the last day to drop but failed to complete (more than 60% of a previous PADR course- DF's and those withdrawn).
BA - Business PADR 0081 or PADR 0021 Any student with fewer than 30 hrs earned and a cumulative GPA below a 2.25, & students returning from academic suspension.
Previously passed PADR and returning from suspension PADR 0090 All students returning from academic suspension who previously earned a DP in a PADR or XL course.
EN - Engineering PADR 0091 or PADR 0021 Engineering students whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0
  • Please note, transfer credits are not considered for the purposes of PADR. All students will be held to the enrollment requirements set forth by each college based on the credits beginning in the student's first semester enrolled at Texas Tech University.
  • All students who must enroll in PADR will be held to the originating enrollment criteria set forth by the student's college regardless of subsequent degree/major changes.

Course Structure, Fee, & Materials

The PADR courses address the factors necessary for academic achievement including cognitive, affective and physiological aspects. The PADR student can expect to grow in self-evaluation and critical thinking skills, examine the habits of successful versus struggling students and identify and implement necessary goals tailored to his/her specific situation that will lead to both academic and career success and satisfaction. PADR is a noncredit course with a mandatory attendance policy.

Course Class Offerings:

  • 80 minute class sessions each Tuesday/Thursday, twelve weeks
  • 80 minute class sessions each Monday/Wednesday, twelve weeks
  • 50 minute class sessions each Monday/Wednesday/Friday, twelve weeks
