Connie R. Watson, BA, MA is originally from Henderson Texas where she developed a solid work ethic and appreciation for family and community.
Her mom, two of her three sons, and her grandsons still live in her hometown; so she
gets back home quite often! A word of advice – “Never forget your roots. It's what
makes you…you.” Connie moved to Lubbock in 2006 to pursue a career at Texas Tech University. She has a combined 15 years of advising experience at the collegiate level and
continues to grow professionally in her field. She is also an instructor for First-Year Seminar and the Program for Academic Development and Retention.
Connie loves travel, film, photography and theatre and has enjoyed opportunities to travel and study abroad. She feels, “travel opens us up to ourselves and understanding where we fit in this big universe. Through practice and engagement with the arts one learns to express themselves when all else fails.”
Education
Connie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from University of Texas (Tyler) as well as her Master of Arts in Theatre, Speech Communications and Art History. She is currently working towards completion of her PhD in Higher Education Research at Texas Tech University.
Connie's research interests include first generation programming, mentoring, coaching, parent voice and student success development.
