Curriculum Vita

Dr. Nelson Dometrius is Professor of Political Science at Texas Tech University.  He received his A.B. from the University of Redlands, his M.A. from California State University, San Diego, and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  Professor Dometrius Joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1978 and has served over the years as Director of Graduate Studies, MPA Program Director, Director of the Center for Public Service, and Chair of the Department. 

His area of specialization is American politics with an emphasis on comparative state politics.  He has published books Social Statistics and Texas Politics & Policy:  His articles have appeared in American Journal of Political ScienceAmerican Politics Quarterly, Congress & the PresidencyEconomics of Education ReviewJournal of PoliticsPolitical Science and PoliticsPolitical Research QuarterlyPublic Administration ReviewSocial Science QuarterlyState GovernmentState Politics and Policy Quarterly, and other journals.  He has served in the past on the editorial boards of The Journal of Politics,  the Texas Journal of Political Studies, State Politics and Policy Quarterly.   He has served on the executive council of the State Politics and Policy section of the American Political Science Association.

As part of his service to the community, Professor Dometrius also served as a founding Board Member and current Advisory Council Member of Kairos Outside Lubbock, a community prison ministry. 

Dr. Dometrius is currently an emeritus professor, serving the department in a part-time retired capacity.  He continues his research and service contributions to the department and discipline and to teach occasional courses for the department.
