Curriculum Vita
Dr. Mayer is Professor of Political Science at Texas Tech University. He received
his Ph.D. from the University of Texas. His current research interests include party
system change, especially in the weakening of mainstream parties of the moderate left
and right, and the emergence of populist parties of identity. These include nationalist
parties of the extreme right as well as parties of sub-cultural defense and other
parties of identity that do not classify on the left to right axis. His published
books include: Contending Perspectives in Comparative Politics (edited with Patterson and Thames), Comparative Politics: The Quest for Theory and Explanation, Comparative Politics: Nations and Theories in a Changing World (With Burnett, Ogden and Tuman)(Now in a 3rd Edition), American Public Policy (with Cochran, Carr and Cayer)(Now in its 10th Edition),Redefining Comparative Politics, Politics in Industrial Societies (With Burnett), and Comparative Political Inquiry: A Methodological Survey. He is in the planning stages of a sequel to his previous book in this area, Comparative Political Inquiry: A Methodological Survey. His articles have appeared in Political Science and Politics, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Comparative Political Studies, The Western Political Quarterly, Teaching Political Science, and West European Politics.
