Dr. Jan Halamek is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Toxicology, and the Director of Institute of Forensic Science (IFS). His teaching and research focuses on the development of non-traditional sensing concepts for forensic, biometric and security applications. The ultimate objective is to evaluate and characterize various metabolite panels (including illicit drugs, etc.) in human body fluids. An important set of supporting experiments involves development of novel concepts for detection of illicit drugs, pesticides and warfare agents. He received his Ph.D. from the Masaryk University in Czech Republic in 2003, he then received a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship and conducted postdoctoral research in pesticide toxicology and sensing at Potsdam University, Germany. He has arrived at Texas Tech University after holding Associate Professor of Chemistry position at the University at Albany, SUNY.
