Spring 2024 Humanities Center Faculty Fellowships

The Humanities Center at Texas Tech is calling for applications from Texas Tech tenure-line faculty in the humanities for its Spring 2024 Faculty Fellowships competition.  The Center will award one full fellowship for Spring 2024, with the possibility of other individual course buyouts for additional fellows.  The full fellowship award will “buy out” the awardee's teaching assignment for one semester to facilitate work on some major project in the humanities.  For this competition, priority will be given to untenured faculty, though if funds allow, the Center will look to buy out individual courses from additional faculty at all levels.  Any winning fellows will be expected to make a 40-minute presentation about their work to the Humanities Center community during the 2024-2025 academic year.   

Applicants should be engaged in a major research-based project which contributes significantly to ongoing theoretical and/or philosophical conversations in contemporary humanities scholarship.  Prospective fellows should be able to articulate how their work innovates their field (or several fields) through the interventions it proposes.  While awardees will be released from full or partial teaching duties for the Spring 2024 semester, they should expect to remain on duty on campus, fulfill any ongoing administrative commitments to the university, and participate in the Humanities Center community through their presence at Center-sponsored events.

To apply, faculty members should submit a unified pdf document that includes:

·      a 750-1000 word narrative detailing the applicant's project and contextualizing its contribution to current humanities scholarship;

·      a brief CV of 2-3 pages;

·      a supporting letter from the applicant's department chair endorsing the release from teaching and specifying the cost of replacement required from the Humanities Center for Spring 2024.
