Applications Open for University Faculty Co-Ombudsperson

Texas Tech University is accepting applications for a University Faculty Co-Ombudsperson to serve alongside the current ombudsperson, Dr. Tara Stevens. Together, the Faculty Co-Ombudspersons will serve as independent, neutral, confidential and informal resources for faculty members who have concerns arising from their work at the university. Having co-ombudspersons will provide several advantages including greater accessibility, a broader scope of experience and perspectives, and continuity of service.

The Faculty Co-Ombudspersons are charged with facilitating resolution of conflicts, disputes, or complaints of faculty that are not easily resolved through the normal channels with their supervisors. The Co-Ombudspersons advise faculty on the viability of complaints and issues; direct faculty to appropriate offices and resources to manage concerns; review relevant university rules and policies; and at times serve as informal mediators in early-stage complaints.

The Office of the Faculty Co-Ombudspersons is independent in its structure and function, and reports to the President of the Faculty Senate and to the Provost and Senior Vice President, who jointly provide operational oversight of the office. The Provost will introduce the successful candidates to other administrators, including deans and senior administrators to facilitate the Co-Ombudspersons' effectiveness.

This opportunity is open to all fulltime faculty members at Texas Tech University, including librarians and archivists and faculty in non-tenure acquiring appointments. For more information, please visit the job posting here or go to workattexastech.com, click Current Employee, scroll down and click Texas Tech University Employee, then enter 27891BR or “ombuds” to locate the detailed job announcement. Applications will be reviewed beginning in April and will be accepted until the position is filled. Inquiries may be directed to Faculty Senate President Katie Langford (katie.langford@ttu.edu) or Senior Vice Provost Rob Stewart (rob.stewart@ttu.edu).
