Provost and Sr Vice President of Academic Affairs
Michael Galyean was appointed Provost and Sr Vice President of Academic Affairs March 29, 2017.
Before his appointment, Galyean served as dean of Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Galyean earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from New Mexico State University, and a master's in animal science and doctoral degree in animal nutrition, both from Oklahoma State University. He joined the faculty at Texas Tech in 1998 and was chair of the Animal Care and Use Committee from 2002 to 2006.
Senior Vice Provost
Rob Stewart currently serves as Senior Vice Provost of Texas Tech University with
oversight responsibilities for areas in support of academic programs, faculty advancement,
and student matriculation. He previously served for 11 years as an associate dean
in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a professor in the Department of Communication
Studies, where he began as an assistant professor at Texas Tech in 1984.
Mitzi K. Lauderdale
Interim Vice Provost
Mitzi Lauderdale serves as Interim Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Associate Academic Dean for Students in the College of Human Sciences and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Personal Financial Planning at Texas Tech University. Mitzi teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in estate planning, legal and regulatory aspects of personal financial planning, special needs planning, and general personal financial planning. Interim Vice Provost for Curriculum
Jaclyn Cañas-Carrell serves as Interim Vice Provost for Curriculum with responsibilities to coordinate curriculum approval and review processes across the university. She joined the Provost's staff after serving as Director of the TTU STEM Center for Outreach, Research, and Education (STEM CORE).
Dr. Cañas-Carrell is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Toxicology. She previously served as the chair of the department's Curriculum Committee from 2012-2014 and as the Graduate Advisor from 2014-2017. She also served as Chair of the President's Gender Equity Council from 2018-2020. She received her bachelors and doctorate from Texas Tech University.
Dr. Cañas-Carrell's area of expertise is in nanotoxicology with research critical for assessing environmental risks posed by nanomaterials. She is an internationally recognized scientist with one patent, over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and 3 book chapters. She has secured over $8.3 million in competitive federal funding as PI or Co-PI since 2008. In addition to her scientific research contributions, she has made significant contributions to training students in STEM and to ensuring the future of the U.S. STEM workforce. She received the Chancellor's Council Distinguished Research Award in 2013 and a President's Excellence in Research Professorship in 2019.
Melanie Hart holds the title of Vice Provost for eLearning & Academic Partnerships. Her responsibilities include the oversight of the six regional teaching sites and the Center at Junction, online program compliance and quality, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), continuing education, and Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD). Darryl James serves as Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and is responsible for the oversight of institutional effectiveness. He represents the university as the accreditation liaison with SACSCOC. He supports TTU compliance with SACSCOC and discipline-based accreditor academic standards. More »
Director/Special Assistant to the Provost for Remnant Trust
Peggy Gordon Miller began her career in higher education at Indiana University Northwest, teaching in the English Department, and was later named chancellor of the campus, where she served in that capacity for a number of years before being named president of the University of Akron. She later served as president of South Dakota State University, from which she retired as president emerita. More »

Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Information Technology
After an initial career as a member of a flight crew in the International Airline industry, Sam Segran joined the Information Technology field in 1985 and has been active in this field for over 30 years. After three years as Deputy Chief Information Officer, he was promoted to Associate Vice President for Information Technology, and Chief Information Officer for Texas Tech University in April 2003. Site Coordinator, OnRamps Program
Dr. Stephanie Hart is the OnRamps Site Coordinator for Texas Tech University. The OnRamps program was established at Texas Tech in 2016 through a partnership with the University of Texas at Austin. OnRamps is a dual-enrollment program designed to prepare high school students to succeed in Core Curriculum courses at flagship universities. Dr. Hart also teaches in the College of Education and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst—Doctoral Level. More »

Catherine A. Duran is the Vice Provost for Student Affairs. Student Affairs is committed to student success, providing resources and services that help students become active participants and members of the university community, and to develop into ethical and innovative leaders. Her responsibilities in Student Affairs include oversight of the areas of student conduct, career services, and counseling, as well as Dean of Students, campus life, student government, student disability and legal services, Red Raider Orientation, co-curricular engagement, student leadership development, and parent and family relations. Patrick C. Hughes
Vice Provost for University Programs and Student Success
Patrick Hughes is Vice Provost for University Programs and Student Success and a Professor of Communication Studies. He is a member of the Texas Tech University Teaching Academy and he received the Texas Tech University President's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007, the Texas Tech University President's Excellence in Gender Equity Award in 2017 and received over 1.3 million dollars in research funding. He is a former department chair and associate dean for academic affairs. More »
Senior Director of Academic Finance
Dr. Jessica Williams serves as the Senior Director of Academic Finance for the Office of the Provost. In her role, she provides support to the Office of the Provost and to the colleges in regards to fiduciary matters by overseeing areas of academic funding and Provost Office contributions. She also assists with faculty and staff appointments through reviewing/processing of faculty offer letter requests and faculty transcript credentialing. More »
Executive Associate, Provost and SVP Academic Affairs
Sharon Pigg serves as the Executive Associate and reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President at Texas Tech University. In her role, Sharon provides total support to the Provost, and manages the office. Sharon is a Lubbock native and lifelong Red Raider fan. Te'Ree Wozniak serves as a Senior Administrative Assistant to the Office of the Provost, providing direct support to Senior Vice Provost Dr. Rob Stewart and Vice Provost Dr. Darryl James. She has served in several administrative support roles at Texas Tech since 2005 in the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness at TTUHSC, in Institutional Advancement at TTU and in the Dean's office at TTU Libraries. Executive Administrative Associate, Provost and SVP Academic Affairs
Luciana Cavazos is an Executive Administrative Associate in the Office of the Provost. She directly supports Vice Provost's Melanie Hart, Jaclyn Canas-Carrell, and Mitzi Lauderdale. Luciana also plays an important role in the daily operations of the Provost office, providing assistance in many key areas of business. She previously worked as an Event Producer for College Flowers for seven years. More »
Senior Administrative Assistant, Provost and SVP Academic Affairs
Maritza Flores serves as an Administrative Assistant to the Office of the Provost. She also serves as support in the day to day operations of the Provost office, providing assistance where there is a need. She graduated from West Texas A&M University in 2017 where she received a bachelor's degree in General Studies. More »
Whitney graduated from Texas Tech University in 2013 where she received degrees in Retail Management and RHIM. Before joining TTU, she worked in Property Management as an Assistant manager. In her down time, she enjoys spending time with her family, husband and two children Rylan and Atlas. More »
