The Commons

tiny model of prototype and key explaining the creative process

Projects from the Spring 2017 Honors Creative Process course.

Mentioning the commons evokes a deep human history of shared natural resources, not in the sense of an allotment of collective ownership but, instead, meaning an equal availability for use. English common lands come readily to mind, for one example, as do the open grass ranges of the American West before barbed wire, for another, or New Mexican acequias, as still another. At Texas Tech University, we believe that innovation is rooted in a similar kind of commons, one of transdisciplinarity – that is, people working across and beyond the boundaries of disciplines and colleges.
To that end, we have established The Commons, a non-hierarchical network connecting students, faculty, and staff. Besides serving as a clearinghouse of news and information on transdisciplinary activities, The Commons also provides opportunities to collaborate on creative projects with other academic units, centers, and institutes of Texas Tech University.
