A.J. Johnson
Alexander “A.J.” Johnson is an experienced chief executive, winning strategist, and
innovative investor. He has built and repositioned successful companies; engineered
and orchestrated complex capital deals; and led multiple corporate acquisitions and
buyouts.
Mr. Johnson is the founder and Managing Partner of Georgetown Analytics Advisors and
Consultants (Georgetown Analytics), a business advisory firm providing middle market
companies and organizations strategy, data analytics, and research solutions. Since
2008, Georgetown Analytics has analyzed and/or advised on more than 100 corporate
acquisitions and provided management and strategy consulting on countless engagements.
Georgetown Analytics also makes direct investments. As principal investor Georgetown
Analytics has completed eight transactions. As the Firm's Managing Partner Mr. Johnson
developed the capital structure and raised both debt and equity capital. Some of Georgetown
Analytics' successes include:
• Liquidity study- engaged by a public company to study their liquidity over time
as compared to certain internal and external market factors. Develop a specific index
reflecting the company's peak liquidity opportunities.
• Buyside acquisition model- Develop a model using AI to screen and assess the impact
of certain acquisition targets. The goal of which was to bring down the cost of acquisition
by creating proprietary deal flow.
• Purchase of Armor- a $240M, 2500 employee, health care provider, Mr. Johnson managed
over 30 clinics, 20 pharmacies and several thousand patients. As the Executive Chairman
he implemented an aggressive turnaround that addressed strategy, culture and structure.
He overhauled the business development process while renegotiating the company's largest
contract from a $6M annual loss to a $3M annual EBITDA gain. He was able to achieve
$10M in cost savings and installed an effective new President and Chief Operating
Officer.
Prior to 2008, Mr. Johnson was the President and Owner of Eagle Group International,
a global consulting and management firm serving governments, organizations and commercial
enterprises in North America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Mr. Johnson joined
Eagle Group in 1998 as head of global business strategy where he led and expanded
the company's portfolio of government contracts, ultimately growing annual revenue
from $600k to more than $160M. Mr. Johnson managed several high-profile engagements
including:
• MILVAX- Military Vaccination Program- Synchronizing information, delivering education,
and coordinating U.S. military immunizations programs worldwide.
• U.A.E.- Modernized the healthcare component of the U.A.E. military.
• Force Reset- Developed the strategic plan and operated the Army's maintenance depots
at Ft. Benning and Ft. Stewart, Georgia. Over 600 employees, thousands of pieces of
equipment and tens of thousands of parts etc.
In 2004, Mr. Johnson raised $36M from institutional investors to support a management
buyout, which resulted in his retaining a fifty percent ownership stake in the company.
Under his stewardship, annual revenue grew significantly as did the company's profile
and reputation, specifically: from 2004 to 2008,
Mr. Johnson and his team tripled the value of the company (from the MBO at just over
5 times EBITDA to its sale for 11.4 times EBITDA), grew revenue from $100M to $160M,
increased profit margin by 350%, and increased booked contracts from $140M to just
under $1B.
In 2008 Mr. Johnson successfully negotiated the sale of Eagle Group International
to Lockheed Martin, the largest Aerospace and Defense company in the world. At the
time of the sale, Eagle Group International had 1,600 employees and 800 subcontract
employees, operated in 35 states and 6 foreign countries. Eagle Group performed on
88 distinct contracts with its primary lines of business being: logistics, health
care, operations, and training.
Before leading Eagle Group, Mr. Johnson was the Chief Executive Officer of Millennium
Health Care, a home health care provider in San Antonio, Texas, where his management,
turnaround and growth strategies resulted in a 50% growth in revenue. He also executed
two acquisitions within one year. Mr.
Johnson began his professional career in the Strategic Planning Group at Merrill Lynch
in Princeton, New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas
Tech University and a J.D. and M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from The George
Washington University. He is a three-year Army ROTC scholarship awardee and U.S. Army
Airborne qualified.
Mr. Johnson is an active community leader and philanthropist. He has served on the
boards of directors of the Points of Light Institute, a national non-profit organization;
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta; the Atlanta Community Food Bank; Saint Joseph's
Mercy Foundation and the Emory University Board of
Visitors. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Rawls College of Business at
Texas Tech University, and an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta. Mr. Johnson became a
published author in January of 2015 with his book: Keeper of the Code, A Buckhead
Tyrone Mystery.
