Rawls College of Business students place in the top three at the "Data Mining Shootout"
A team of two Rawls College of Business graduate students, Amir Zemoodeh and Akshay
Chavan, placed in the top three among teams from various colleges nationwide in the
“Data Mining Shootout,” a competition sponsored by SAS Institute, Central Michigan
University Research Corporation, and Dow Chemical.The team was directed by Dr. Zhangxi
Lin under the auspices of the Center for Advanced Analytics and Business Intelligence
(CAABI), and of the MS-Business Intelligence program in the ISQS area. Dr. Peter
Westfall, co-director of CAABI, also directed and sponsored the student team.
In addition to the national recognition Texas Tech received from the award, Texas
Tech also received travel and expenses for two to attend the SAS Data Mining Conference
in Las Vegas, October 25-26, and a $2000 prize.
