Rawls College of Business Presents Two New Rawls Chair Appointments

are pleased to announce the appointment of:

JAMES J. HOFFMANas the Rawls Chair in Health Organization Management and Operations

James J. Hoffman is currently the Rawls Professor of Operations Management in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University and the Associate Dean for MBA Programs and Executive Education. He holds a Ph.D. from the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research interests are in health care management, operations management and business strategy. His research has appeared in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Health Services Research, Healthcare Management Review, Information Systems & Operational Research Journal, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Journal of Engineering and Technology Management, Journal of High Technology Management Research, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Systems Research, Journal of Management, European Journal of Operational Research, and the Strategic Management Journal.

WILLIAM L. GARDNER

as the

Rawls Chair in Leadership

William L. (Bill) Gardner (DBA, Florida State University) is currently the Jerry S. Rawls Professor in Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Director of the Institute for Leadership Studies, and Coordinator of the Area of Management at the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University. He previously held faculty positions at Southern Illinois University, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has published numerous articles in such scholarly outlets as the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Management, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. His research focuses on authentic and charismatic leadership and the role that cognitive (e.g., leader-member attributions), affective (e.g., leader emotional labor), motivational (e.g., learned helplessness and optimism) and influence (e.g., impression management and politics) processes play within organizations. Bill was recognized for his extensive service to the Southern Management Association (SMA) as President (2006-2007), Program Chair (2005), Board Member (1997-2000), OB/Org. Cog./Managing Conflict Track Chair (1995) through his induction as an SMA Fellow in 2002. He has also served on several editorial boards including the Academy of Management Journal, The Leadership Quarterly, and the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. He was recently honored by Florida State University as the 2010 Distinguished Doctoral Alumni of the College of Business.

The Rawls Chair in Health Organization and Management and the Rawls Chair in Leadership are new Chairs generated from the Jerry Rawls endowment that previously funded professorships in these areas. We are thankful to Texas Tech University alumnus Jerry S. Rawls who donated $25 million to The Rawls College of Business in 2000 that has enabled us to recognize and retain outstanding faculty through the appointment of Chairs and Professorships.
