Area of Marketing Launches Marketing Ph.D. Speaker Series
By: Trevor Bell
Dr. Mayukh Dass, J.B. Hoskins Associate Professor in the Area of Marketing, has recently implemented a new Marketing Ph.D. Speaker Series, which introduces doctoral students to top marketing researchers from prestigious business schools around the country. The speaker series intends to have several research presentations throughout each semester and will allow students to learn more about cutting-edge research in marketing.
The inaugural speaker for the series was Dawn Iacobucci, the E. Bronson Ingram Professor of Management in Marketing at Vanderbilt University. During Dr. Iacobucci's presentation, she outlined her paper, "Toward a more nuanced understanding of the statistical properties of a median split," which was co-authored with current Rawls College faculty member, Deidre Popovich. In addition to explaining the paper's purpose and practical implications, Dr. Iacobucci detailed the academic research process and offered advice to the doctoral students in attendance.
"The speaker series will greatly benefit our doctoral students as the students will be able to interact and learn from the top scholars in the field. My hope is, such interactions will open doors to future collaboration between our students and the visiting scholars," Dr. Dass said.
In the spring semester, the speaker series will welcome Ajay Kohli, Gary T. and Elizabeth R. Jones Chair, Professor of Marketing at Georgia Tech, who has agreed to conduct a workshop on Theory Development, and Sundar Bharadwaj, the Coca-Cola Company Chair of Marketing at the University of Georgia, who will present his recent paper. The dates of these presentations are yet to be announced, but students and faculty members will be informed when this information becomes available.
