From Feb. 24-27, the Real Estate Organization (REO) traveled to Tampa, Fla., to meet with industry leaders and tour real estate developments in the area. During the trip, 11 finance students, accompanied by Interim Dean Paul Goebel and Professor Jared Harrell, met with Garry Harrod, Texas Tech alumnus (B.B.A. Finance, 1971) and founder and managing director of Harrod Properties. The students also spoke with team members of Harrod Properties and toured the Hillsborough Medical Village, the Galleria, the Bardmoor Palms Solution Center, and Zhone buildings.

Students in REO additionally met with Don Whittemore, partner, and Elise Batsel, counsel, of Phelps Dunbar LLP to learn more about the real estate market in Tampa, how it differed from Texas, and what recent development projects have been started.

The students who went were:

  • Dillon Donald, president
  • Zachary Scott, vice president
  • Amanda Calvert, secretary
  • Jake Rittenhouse, treasurer
  • Christopher Cash, membership
  • Alex Priest, philanthropy
  • Allister Banks-Ellis
  • Sara Cauwels
  • Preston Patterson
