The Rawls College of Business has named Dr. Rodney Thomas as the new area coordinator for the Area of Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Thomas is a Jerry S. Rawls Professor of Business Administration.
Dr. Rodney W. Thomas is the Area Coordinator of Marketing and Supply Chain Management and the Jerry S. Rawls Professor of Business Administration at Texas Tech University. His interests focus on behavioral aspects of supply chain management with particular emphasis on buyer-supplier relationships, retailing, time pressure, sourcing behavior, and experimental designs. His research has been accepted in Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Retailing, Industrial Marketing Management, International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Journal of Relationship Marketing, and Transportation Journal. Thomas serves as senior associate editor for the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management. He also serves as an editorial review board member for both the Journal of Business Logistics and Journal of Supply Chain Management.
Prior to returning to graduate school, Thomas held a number of positions with industry leading companies such as Lowe's, IBM, and Michelin. His time with Michelin was spent as a marketing analyst and marketing & sales manager. At IBM, Thomas was a supply planner. During Thomas' time at Lowes, he progressed through the ranks as a logistics specialist, logistics manager, director of logistics, and merchandise buyer. These industry experiences helped Thomas develop managerial expertise in customer service, sales, leadership, inventory management, purchasing, negotiations, forecasting, logistics planning, category management, supplier management, retailing, marketing management, and supply chain strategy. Thomas earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
