Matt Scurlock currently serves as senior vice president for Capital Analytics & Stress Testing at Texas Capital Bank in Dallas. In this role, he manages a $20 billion bank for the program. He leads a team to develop and implement both the framework and models to measure the Bank's risk and earnings capacity under various macro-economics scenarios. Scurlock recently spoke with Rawls Business Leadership Program (RBLP) students about his professional experience and passion for the industry.

On Feb. 1, Scurlock joined select RBLP students for a luncheon, followed by a presentation with the entire RBLP class. At both events, Scurlock discussed how his time at the Rawls College shaped his career. Through his professional and personal experiences, he has learned that a top priority for anyone should be satisfying core interests. He says that passion leads to great work.

Scurlock discovered his passion at an investment firm in Park City, Utah. He says that when you find work you're excited about, showing leadership becomes almost second nature. Additionally, he believes that there is immense value in observing the leaders and mentors around you. By finding work you care about and forming relationships with people you look up to, you're laying a path of success for yourself.

While any student can find success, Scurlock also emphasized the importance of enjoying yourself on the way. Everyone has to start somewhere, and experiencing the adventure on the way up is just as exciting as finally getting to the top.

"Hearing about Mr. Scurlock's path to success and the lessons he's learned on the way was insightful. It is always motivating to hear about the accomplishments of Rawls alumni, especially one that has accomplished so much at a young age," Conner Parker said.

"It's not often you get to hear from a young alumni that came from the exact place you are now. It's encouraging and inspiring to hear about his success because it reminds me that I can accomplish just as much in the area that I'm passionate about," Garrett Robinson said.
