Student Org Spotlight: Delta Sigma Pi
By: Kaitlin York
What is the mission/purpose of Delta Sigma Pi?
Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.
Who is eligible to join Delta Sigma Pi?
All business and economics majors with at least a 3.0 are eligible to join.
What are some benefits to joining Delta Sigma Pi?
Delta Sigma Pi helps its members develop into the business leaders of tomorrow while providing a supportive brotherhood. Every semester we travel to a national conference that provides industry tours given by recruiters who are also members of Delta Sigma Pi. We host our own mini career fair and have our own corporate sponsors. We also provide leadership opportunities that can help individuals develop and strength themselves.
How does a student join Delta Sigma Pi and what are the membership requirements and responsibilities?
Students join DSP by participating in our recruitment period. This semester it is 1/30-2/5. There are a variety of events that always end with an interview. Two days after the interview, the individual will be notified if they have received a bid from Delta Sigma Pi. Membership requirements include (as a pledge class) to host one professional, social, and community service event over an eight week period. There are also weekly meetings to attend.
"Delta Sigma Pi has allowed me the opportunities to step out of my comfort zone and develop into the person that I am today. I joined DSP in the fall of 2015 when I first transferred to Texas Tech. I did not know many people here until I joined DSP and was given a family of over 100 brothers who have helped me succeed during my time at Texas Tech. DSP has given me many leadership opportunities that have allowed me to grow professionally. I know the life lessons and qualities I have learned throughout my time in Delta Sigma Pi will help me throughout my post college career and throughout the rest of my life," Hunter Welborn, President of Delta Sigma Pi, said.
