The Rawls College hosted the Fall 2017 career fair, our biggest recruitment event of the semester, on Oct. 11 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. More than 120 employers were in attendance and more than 1,700 students attended the expo. Around 35 company recruiters stayed overnight to conduct on-campus interviews the next day, with many more scheduled to come back over the next several weeks to interview students.
The expo, organized by the Career Management Center, allowed students to network with companies looking for all majors and disciplines within the Rawls College. Students learned about specific full-time and internship employment opportunities. It also provided students a venue to practice their networking skills and develop a base of contacts to use in the future.
"I'd say that no matter whether you are a first-year student or a senior, the Career Fair is a great way to meet with companies, learn more about your field of study, work on your networking skills and help get your name out there. You may even wind up getting an interview on the spot," junior accounting major Ryan Galliger said. "It's always a great opportunity to get to talk to potential employers and hear what they have to say."
Alexis Villarreal, an inside sales representative for Ferguson, graduated from the Rawls College with his B.B.A. in Marketing and Management in 2016. He enjoyed representing his company and talking with students at the career fair.
"It was encouraging to be able to help students through the interview process and build their confidence. I was in their shoes not too long ago, so I understand the process," Villarreal said.
The next Rawls College Career Fair is Feb. 21 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
