About

Bret Scott is originally from Bellingham, WA. He attended Western Washington University (WWU) in his hometown where he earned his BA in accounting. After graduating from WWU, Bret attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA, where he obtained his master's in accounting (MAcc).

Bret began his accounting career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Seattle, WA office. During his time at PwC, Bret worked as both an auditor and analyst, eventually earning his Certified Public Accountant license. Bret left PwC to work for Washington Mutual Inc. as a senior treasury analyst, ultimately becoming Chief Financial Officer of Washington Mutual Preferred Funding LLC. His interest in capital markets research compelled Bret to pursue his PhD at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in College Station, TX.

Bret joined the Lyons School of Accounting at Texas Tech University in the fall of 2017. As an assistant professor of practice, Bret teaches all financial accounting courses - principles, intermediate, and advanced - as well as accounting research to students in the audit track of the Master's of Science in Accounting program. His research and work experience in capital markets help provide context to the material Bret teaches his students.
